Exuberant Energy in Knife Paintings by Francoise Nielly

Check out the explosive vitality, lust for life, and exuberant energy in these knife paintings by Francoise Nielly. The French-born artist says she is still inspired by the dazzling sunlight in her native region of Cannes-Saint Tropez. She spent the first part of her life exploring the numerous possibilities that art offered her (photography, painting, and computer animated graphics). She is inspired by her architect father. And, eventually, she found her true niche in the oversized ‘brush’ strokes that knife painting allows her to employ. Most of her paintings are portraits rendered paintings after black-and-white photographs. Her subjects are exposed against a stark background, and there is desire, loud and clear, speaking through their eyes. Says the artist’s Behance biography, Nielly “”takes a risk: her painting is sexual, her colors free, exuberant, surprising, even explosive, the cut of her knife incisive, her color palette dazzling.”
