Photos of Monumental Burning Man Sculptures by Michael Holden

Each year, another series of photographs depicting Burning Man sculptures by Michael Holden is issued to great acclaim. That’s because, every year, Holden chooses to pay homage to the festival held in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, while the festival itself celebrates “radical self-expression.” In other words, some of the weirdest, most wonderful (almost) adults will gather in throngs of up to 50,000 to create monumental sculptures. At the end of the week-long festivities, the sculptures are set ablaze. Seattle, Washington-based Holden’s portfolio is filled with photos he has taken at Burning Man over the course of the past five years. And his portfolio looks all the richer for this: for all the great, wacky, spectacularly diverse range of human existence, experience and forms of manifestation that it covers. All photos featured here were taken at this year’s Burning Man festival.
