Totally Expressive Dog Portraits by Ron Schmidt for Loose Leashes

These dog portraits by Ron Schmidt for Loose Leashes, his canine portraiture company, are as cute and funny as they get. The photographer, who works with his wife, and carefully titles each image, runs an online shop which sells prints of portraits with man’s best friend. He finds a situation and story behind each portrait, making sure the dog feels at ease in the scenario, and is fully cooperative so that he can get the best shot. Schmidt is a former fashion and celebrity photographer, who realized he should go into canine portrait work after branching out on his own, into the field of commercial photography. That year, he designed a Christmas card for family and friends featuring his golden lab Indy. The shot “was a fun, conceptual image that was a big hit with everyone who saw it. Since I love dogs and photography, this worked out really well.” According to a statement made by Schmidt to canine portal Dogster, “all the images represent the freedom that a dog would have without someone holding its leash. These are the things dogs would do if no one was around and they had absolute freedom.”
